Friendship
Friends, you and me... you brought me another friend... and then there were three...we started our group... our circle of friends... and like that circle...there is no beginning or end.

It's been a beautiful start to our new year, and I've been pleased to see so many of you out there playing on Tuesdays! Don't forget to take some photos next week of your playing partners. We'd like to post your smiling faces on our website!
There seems to be some confusion regarding the requirements for participating in the weekly "sweeps" games, so I'd like to clarify the rules here.
#1 - Three scorecards for each group must be turned in each week. And the three should have identical information.
#2 - Each person's name in the group should be listed in alphabetical order by last name. The first name or initial needs to be included as well.
#3 - In addition to individual-hole scores, 9-hole totals and an 18-hole total need to be filled in. The next column on the scorecard is for a handicap number, and that must appear, as well as the calculation of your gross score minus the handicap number under the column "net".
#4 - Each scorecard must be dated, signed by the person who kept the scores, and attested by a second member of the group.
#5 - Fill in the "Sweeps" sheet showing your gross score plus the results of the game.
#6 - Those identical scorecards are then to be put in the boxes labeled "Handicap", "Tournament" and "Ringer" -- one in each.
Three different board members have responsibilities that can only be accomplished by having complete and accurate scorecards each week. So please help make their lives a little easier by following these simple rules. If you fail to turn in scorecards with these few requirements, we will presume that you do not want to participate in the sweeps, and your group will not be qualified for that week's game.
One final reminder: It is your responsibility -- not Mary Lou's -- to post your score each week. Please keep your postings up-to-date so that we are using accurate information.
And please visit our website regularly for up-to-the minute information: http://www.erwgc.org
Thanks, and let's get out there and go low!

Just a quick reminder that we do have a "Member Business Directory". Take a look at it -- you may find something you need there. And, if you would like to have your business name and contact information included there, please send that info to Peggy Pagliaro at this address: webmaster@erwgc.org

I am the Handicap Chair for 2011. My role is to provide the semi-monthly index and course handicap report, which you will find behind the weekly SWEEPS sign-up sheet. Your course handicap is used for all SWEEPS and other tournament net score calculations and it is updated on the 1st and 15th of each month. My other duties, include helping golfers without an index get one, registering new ERWGC members in our handicap system, and reviewing scores posted each week. Regardless of where you play, you should post your score at that course as soon as you finish play. If you are unable to post immediately, you can post on line at www.ghin.com or www.golfsdcwga.com when you get home. It is very important that keep accurate score cards, that they be attested, and that you post every round that you play (failure to post rounds can result in penalty rounds being assessed).
Having been SWEEPS Chair for the last three years, I appreciate how important it is to maintain your handicap score records – and understand how to use them. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Hi my name is Tina Wilkes and I am happy to introduce myself as the new secretary for the Encinitas Ranch Women’s Golf Club. As secretary my duties are to attend the meetings and record the minutes of the meetings. The minutes are then submitted to the president for approval and filed. In taking this position it is my desire to support and help grow ERWGC to be a place of fellowship, camaraderie and fun.

Hi, I am the County Delegate. This means that I am involved with getting information to you regarding tournaments that the San Diego County Womens Golf Association (sdcwga.org) sponsors. Sometimes the tournaments are held at private clubs that you may not have access to, so check the website, come out and golf and meet members of other clubs in your area.
I encourage you to visit the website (sdcwga.org) often and get involved. They have good incentives for those who enter in their tournaments.
I also attend meetings and post important information on our bulletin board. You will find your GHIN ID CARD (also serves as a discount card) and the 2011 SDCWGA HANDBOOK in the drawer at the course.
Let me know if you have any questions, Laura Henderson.

How Well Should You Be Playing?
Do you usually play a few strokes over your Course Handicap? Did you know that this is normal under the USGA Handicap System? Why does this occur?
Have you heard that as an average golfer that you should only be expected to play to your Course Handicap 25 percent of the time? That you should average three strokes higher than your Course Handicap? Out of 20 scores that you will only have one score that will be two strokes better than your Course Handicap?
The above is because the USGA Handicap System is based upon the Potential Ability of a player rather than the average of all of his scores. A player's Handicap Index reflects his potential because it is based upon his best scores posted for a given number of rounds, ideally the best 10 of his last 20 rounds. Since the USGA has his worst 10 scores tossed out, his Handicap Index reflects his best days.

SWEEPS
Below are the basic requirements for SWEEPS participation.
1. Sign the game sheet before you play
2. Complete your scorecard, sign it, and have it attested. Cards missing these signatures will not be considered for SWEEPS
3. Complete the SWEEPS scoring and record the results on the game sheet
4
. Put one card for your group in the tournament box (middle box). There must be a card in the box for your group to be considered as participating the SWEEPS for that week.
Thanks for paying attention to these details so your group will be eligible for SWEEPS points and I can fairly score the game.

Cancellations
Ladies: With the "iffy" weather and resulting cancellations we’ve been having, please exercise the following courtesies to make Tuesdays pleasant for all:
- If you decide to cancel, please notify at least one other member of your group in addition to the Pro Shop, so that someone doesn't end up as a single;
- If there have been a number of cancellations or no-shows (there should not be any no-shows - call the Pro Shop), please be flexible in agreeing to some group shuffling by the starter to facilitate the entire field; but,
- Before doing too much shuffling, please make certain with the Pro Shop that there have not been last minute additions or changes made to the last pairing sheet sent out by Liisa.
To that end I will ask the guys at the desk to place a copy of their final pairing sheet on the desk, or somewhere obvious, so that we can all check to see who is supposed to be playing in each group.
Thank you all for your cooperation! Carolyn

Tip of the week:
Move the Ball Forward in Your Stance (Towards your left foot for a right-handed golfer)
The notion of playing the ball off of your left heel is no longer valid. We want to hit the ball on the upswing, thus increasing launch angle and decreasing the ball's spin rate. In order to do this, we must move the ball forward in our stance. For some golfers, it will be enough to play the ball off of your big toe, while for others it may be necessary to move the ball all the way up so that it is positioned outside of your left foot. Experiment with different ball positions – but, whatever you do, move the ball forward in your stance!

Weekly Tournaments (SWEEPS)
Each week (except for major and special tournaments) there is a different game.
1.The sign-up sheet and the monthly handicap report can be found in front of the posting machine.
2. Each week, enter your current handicap and name before you begin play.
3.
When finished, sign your card, record your tournament game score on the sign-up sheet.
4. Be sure to also post your score that day before you leave the clubhouse. |

Meetings
There are four general meetings per year. On those days, we have an 8:00 a.m. shot-gun start so that all players finish at the same time and we are able to meet immediately afterward. ERWGC has a dedicated board who work throughout the year on your behalf. They really need you to attend these meetings to share new information and provide feedback that will be helpful to the Board.

Pace of Play
Tip of the Week: Leave the green immediately after
completing the hole. Record scores on the next tee, but don't
let scorekeeping keep you from being ready to tee off.
1. When playing cart path only holes, be sure to take enough
clubs to play any shot you may need to play. Try taking one
club more and one club less, along with the club you think
you will need.
2. Play Ready Golf. Go directly to your ball. If you are
riding in a cart, drop your passenger off and go to your ball.
Be ready to make your shot when it is your turn to play and
do not be afraid to shoot out of turn.
3. Line up your putt while others are putting. Also, finish
your short putt if your not in someones line rather than marking
and waiting.
4. At the restroom between holes 15 & 16, when finished,
send one cart ahead to #16 to tee off. You don't need to wait
for the whole group to get to the tee box before hitting your
tee shot.
5. Park your carts at the back of the green closest to the
next hole to save time.
6 . Watch other players hit, to help keep track everyones
balls.
7 . Practice swings not only add to your physical exhaustion
but are time consuming, try to limit them as few as possible.
8 . Players in the first cart should tee off first. |

Chip-ins, Birdies and Sandies
If you'd like to play, remember to signup in the morning
before your round.
The price has changed! For $1 you will be entered into
all three games.
Please check to see if you have money to pick up!
Winnings paid at end of each month.
Leave your envelope in the back of the box after
removing your winnings.
On your score card, circle the hole on which you made your
chip-in, sandy or birdie. When you finish your round, record
the hole number of your accomplishment next to your name on
the sign-up sheet. Winners will be paid at the end of each
month.
A chip-in is any ball holed from off the
green.
You can make a sandy by
1) making par or better after escaping from a bunker;
2) hitting out of a bunker and making one putt
(you do not have to make par); or
3) holing your shot out of a bunker.
To score a win in the birdie club you must
score
one under par (or better).
If you have questions, refer to the committee chair.
